We received an honorable mention for our proposal “The oak coffin and the five shields.” The visitor center is in connection to The Egtved Girl’s grave, one of the most essential archeological discoveries from the bronze age in Denmark. The visitor center consists of an exhibition and education building cladded in dark oak shingles. The building is designed with inspiration found in the shape of the beautiful oak coffin, cut out of a single piece of oak tree, in which the Egtved Girl was buried. In connection to the building we propose five “shields” consisting of large round benches placed in the landscape. Here the life of the Egtved Girl is presented through a number of playful and artistic installations The jury awarded our project as one of the five best proposals, describing our take on the storytelling as the most artistic and poetic of all.
